The Hombres

Marion Huber Theater

By Tony Meneses
Directed by Annie Tippe

This event has passed

Serious and funny and heartbreaking and beautiful.

—OUT IN JERSEY

This new play by Tony Meneses (Two River’s The Women of Padilla, Guadalupe in the Guest Room) is a fresh and nuanced look at the complexity and intimacy of male friendship. Set in New Jersey (“somewhere off the NJ Transit line”), the play follows Julián, a gay Latino yoga teacher, as he clashes with the straight and macho Latino construction workers outside his studio—particularly the older head of the crew, Héctor, who seeks from Julián something he never expected. Annie Tippe (Lortel Award-winning Octet) to direct.

The Hombres contains strong violence some audiences may find disturbing, strong language, mature content, flashing lights and use of incense.  If you have specific questions regarding the content of this production, call the box office at 732.345.1400

Haydee Zelideth

HAYDEE ZELIDETH (she/her/hers) COSTUME DESIGNER believes that clothes are a powerful tool of one’s own personal statement. In their own way they carry on public conversations with others and they share stories about who we are, who we are not, and who we wish to be. They are a means of exploring how to manipulate our perception of the human body and mind, in how our appearance (both physical and in what we wear) informs how the world chooses to engage or disengage with us, and how these images can open up perceptions of race, class, socioeconomic status, and more – all of which are conversations that most interest her. She is a Mexican American that grew up on both sides of the border. These experiences inform her point of view and how she approaches her work as a storyteller, giving depth, dimension and color to the specificities of someone’s life. www.haydeezelideth.com
