What They Did
Check out all the amazing workshops, shows and events that our Scholars attended!
October 2023
The Howard Aronson Metro Scholars started off strong with a busy October! They started with an orientation meeting with Kate and Brie from Education, and attending a performance of HAIR. Later in the month, they took a tour of the HAIR set and discussed the show over beverages at their Coffee Talk! They had a Casting 101 workshop with Education’s Brie and Kate. The students read a play, did some character work, and each read for a character to gain perspective on auditioning vs. casting for a role. They also got to meet virtually with HAIR director, James Vasquez, and ask him questions about the show!
November 2023
In November, the Howard Aronson Metro Scholars continued their skill building workshops with Props 101 with the props department! Students learned how our props department creates, sources and brainstorms props and all the decision-making that goes into it. This workshop ended with learning about (and tasting) stage blood.
December 2023
December was a busy month! The Howard Aronson Metro Scholars received tickets to On Beckett and got to participate in a workshop, Clowning with Bill Irwin, with the On Beckett star. They learned clowning, miming and did a lot of work with bowler hats! Students also participated in Two River’s Holiday Pop-Up event where they helped with activities and crafts, as well as joining in on the fun festivities.
January 2024
In January, the Metro Scholars revisited the props department to build their knowledge with a more advanced workshop! The students learned how to make edible props with members of our props department! They transformed watermelon, cream of wheat and edible paper into a wide variety of food – including steaks and chicken.
February 2024
In February, The Howard Aronson Metro Scholars attended The Scarlet Letter, participating in a tour of the set and a Coffee Talk discussion after the show! Students also participated in Dramaturgy 101 workshop with Artistic Assistant Bailey Dumlao and former Howard Aronson Metro Scholar Camille Pugliese, where they learned about the importance and purpose of Dramaturgy in a production and as a career.
April 2024
In April, The Howard Aronson Metro Scholars attended A Thousand Maids, participating in a tour of the set and a Coffee Talk discussion! Students also participated in a Stage Combat workshop led by J. Alex Cordaro, where they learned the ins and out of how to safely complete a series of stage combat moves. They had a blast working on their graceful falls and powerful punches!
May 2024
The Howard Aronson Metro Scholars attended a Marketing 101 workshop with the Marketing Department. Here the students learned about all things branding, selling, connecting and creating by creating their very own Marketing plans for next season’s Little Shakespeare production!
June 2024
The Howard Aronson Metro Scholars attended a performance of Gem of the Ocean, followed by a tour of the set and a Coffee Talk to discuss the show! Students also receive a Costume 101 workshop from the costume department where they learned about the Gem of the Ocean costume design and presented their very own sketched out costumes!
