Miriam Kramer

Miriam Kramer (she/they) is a queer poet residing in New Jersey with her ex-partner/still best friend, daughter, and two cats. Her work explores her quest for connection to the world, other people, and herself. She was the winner of the 2023 Jack McCarthy Book Prize, and her debut full length collection, Built by Storms, was published by Write Bloody Publishing in April 2024. It was then nominated for The Lambda Literary Prize and The New Writers Award, Great Lakes College Association. Miriam loves stick figure drawings, bright sneakers, collecting scrap metal, and hand sewing weird fabric scraps onto boring clothes. She also enjoys going on photo adventures, ever seeking out locations where a tetanus infection seems inevitable. Miriam is overly sentimental and has been known to rescue items from other peoples’ garbage. Miriam has read poems out loud to friends and strangers in many parking lots and established venues all over the country, is more awkward than you could ever imagine, and would be thrilled to come read for you. Built By Storms

Miriam Kramer’s eclectic Built by Storms dives headfirst into the lowest of lows, the dark throes of addiction and the walls broken by angry fists.

Sometimes the path to healing isn’t linear. Sometimes the next step means traveling to another reality. In these poems, Kramer demonstrates what it means to be built by the storms of our past, our what-ifs, our lost relationships, and what it means to survive all that was and could have been. This collection doesn’t shy away from the brutality of suicide, the numbness of depression, and the horror of loss.

So dive deep into the swirling storms of Kramer’s past and emerge like a beautiful sunrise.
