Tartuffe
In this contemporary view of Molière’s classic comedy, Tartuffe is a scheming opportunistic evangelist who takes over a Texas household wreaking havoc on one and all, thanks to the gullibility of the wealthy homeowner. Tartuffe attempts to marry the homeowner’s daughter, seduce the wife, and usurp his property while passing religious judgement on the entire family. In Molière’s time, he wrote Tartuffe as a commentary on religious hypocrisy and the danger of a society blinded by religious fervor… sound familiar?
