94.3 THE POINT: NKOTB’S JOEY MCINTYRE COMING TO RED BANK

by Liz Jeressi

And he’s tackling Shakespeare!

Two River Theater in Red Bank invites you to a VERY special show with a REALLY famous guy who many women wished to marry back in the boy band days, lol!

The show is none other than William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, and it runs Jan. 11th through Feb. 2nd. In case you’re unfamiliar with this comedy….it’s got a little of everything: unexpected love triangles, separated twins, and mistaken identities.

This gender-bending tale is saturated in perilous excesses from love to grief, ego to mischief. Twelfth Night is one of Shakespeare’s most celebrated plays and even, some would say, his best comedy.

Two River Theater describes it this way:

THIS SHOW IS FOR YOU IF…

— You love hearing Shakespeare’s rich language in slightly more modern way

— You’ve ever had to pretend to be someone else, just to survive in a strange new place

— You have that one friend who’s actually madly in love with the idea of being in love. Or you are that friend…

— You get that every jester has a bit of a dark side

–You want to see Joey McIntyre (Who is no stranger to Broadway (He starred in both Waitress and Wicked)

Joey McIntyre plays Orsino, Duke of Illyria. Joey actually grew up four blocks away from the oldest community theater in America, The Footlight Club in Boston, MA, where at 8 years old he made his debut as Winthrop in The Music Man. When he was 12, his community theater career was held up by an audition for New Kids on the Block — the original Boy Band. A very long story short, the band went on to sell over 80 million records worldwide and continues to sell out arenas today.

Joey has a ton of fans and a ton of success as a solo recording artists, including the top ten hit “Stay the Same” (Columbia Records.) As an actor, Joey has been seen on TV and film including Matt in the film version of The Fantasticks, David E. Kelly’s Boston Public, The McCarthys on CBS, and Paul Feig’s The Heat with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy.

Through it all, Joey’s heart has always led him back to the theater, where his credits include many regional productions as well as Wicked on Broadway as Fiyero alongside Idina Menzel, Off-Broadway in Tick, Tick…Boom! and most recently on Broadway in Waitress the Musical.
