NJ.COM: N.J. theater hosts virtual reminiscence session with Broadway veteran

by NJ.com

The musical revue “Rodgers & Hart” ran for 130 performances on Broadway in 1975, but for one participant, it created a lifetime of memories.

Stage and screen actress Barbara Andres will share her experiences as a cast member in the production saluting the show tunes of Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart in an online program titled “My Funny World With Rodgers and Hart.” Hosted by Two River Theater of Red Bank, it will be streamed 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9.

According to the Internet Broadway Database, “Rodgers & Hart” opened at the Helen Hayes Theatre on May 13, 1975, after 22 preview performances. It closed on Aug. 16 after 108 shows.

Andres, who starred in Two River’s 2016 production of “I Remember Mama,” will delve into “the bustling world of Broadway in the 1970s, as she and the revue’s creative team strove to pay tribute to the music and impact of one of musical theater’s most revered musical duos.”

The digital performance is an excerpt from Andres’ upcoming memoir of her life on stage.

“Everybody has a story to tell, worth telling,” Andres notes in a short video promoting the event. “And My hope, in sharing mine with you, is that you see the life of a complicated actor alongside their personal life.”

Tickets to “My Funny World” are $10 and can be ordered online.
